Summary of Tours 2010 - 2011

On this regular difficulty tour we cycle around the highlands of Michoacan state during the famous Day of the Dead celebrations. We range in altitude from 1500m to 2500m so the weather is cool. We'll explore colonial cities, indigenous Purepecha towns, the newest volcano in the world, the avocado capital of the world and some spectacular mountain country-side. There are lakes, colourful markets, and interesting history and culture. This is a loop tour starting and ending in Quiroga. We suggest that you fly into Morelia international airport.

This is a regular difficulty tour that follows the Pacific coast down from Puerto Vallarta to Zihuatanejo. On this very popular tour we meander along the quiet roads of the rolling foot hills of the Sierra Madres, the ocean crashes onto beaches 200 metres below with a backdrop of dazzling mountains and forests.

Colonial Valladolid to Mérida. The highlights of this tour are the flamingos and other aquatic birds in the mangrove habitat of Ria Lagartos. We also visit Mayan ruins including the well kept secret of Ek Balam, and several cenotes. A cenote is an opening to the immense underground lake and river system of the Yucatan; each one is spectacular and unique. Along the route are also some interesting Mayan and Yucatecan towns and villages. This is a regular difficulty tour.

We start and end this regular difficulty tour in Mérida. We will visit the major Mayan ruins including Chichén Itzá, Ek Balam and Cobá as well as some of the lesser known but important sites such as Mayapan, visit many cenotes, and cycle on lesser travelled roads. Colonial cities and towns like Valladolid, Izamal and Tizimin are a pleasure to spend some time in and finally we visit the rustic gulf coast, cycling between the sea and lagoons with a prevailing tailwind at our backs.

We start and end this regular difficulty tour in Valladolid. The loop ride will highlight some of the most impressive Mayan ruins in the Yucatan, including Chichen-Itza, Coba and Ek-Balam. We will also visit several cenotes and ride some of the quietest roads around. Besides Valladolid, Izamal is another colonial gem and we will also delve into some beautiful natural places.

This is a light-regular difficulty tour with 10 days of cycling averaging 70km per day. We will meet in Mérida and cycle from that beautiful colonial city, to Mayan ruins, crystaline cenotes, flamingo and wetland bird sanctuaries and finally end up at the Mexican jewel of the Caribbean, Tulum. Of course we will cycle on the beautiful quiet backroads of the Yucatan.

This extreme challenge difficulty and extremely popular tour in the state of Oaxaca starts and ends in Oaxaca city. The route to the coast will take us through a major Mexican pilgrimage destination, Juquila. People come from all over Mexico by foot, bicycle and motorized vehicle. After a brief stay on the coast in the surfer town of Pto. Escondido we head back into the hills and mountains to loop back to Oaxaca. The mountain scenery here is absolutely spectacular. This area is rich in indigenous culture, mainly Mixtec, Triqui and Amuzgos. We end the ride along an ancient trading route winding it's way along the top of a high ridge.
